The Little Sisters of the Poor celebrated their patron saint with a hearty community luncheon followed by a traditional Saint Joseph Table. The table was chock full of baked goods donated by our many friends, outside associates and staff members who are always happy to help us out whenever we need their support.
The auditorium never looked more lovely as sunshine filtered through the stained glass windows adding a warm glow to the already warm spirit within the room.
Mother Joseph Caroline welcomed all to the table including our special guest, The Most Reverend Paul R. Sanchez, Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus of the Diocese of Brooklyn.
Sister Carol read a brief history about the feast table which originated in the Middle Ages when Sicily was in the throes of a severe drought. Its citizens prayed faithfully to St. Joseph for help and, when the drought ended, the faithful showed their thanks by sharing the bounty of the harvest that followed.
What a gift to still be carrying on this tradition of gratitude in the 21st century. And what a gift to be a part of the Queen of Peace community! A community built on Faith, Respect, Trust, Fellowship and Love.
